Personality Assessment (Myers Briggs)

Here’s a clean, authoritative introduction you can use or lightly adapt. It educates without overclaiming, positions Myers-Briggs appropriately, and clearly links personality awareness to personal and business reinvention.

Understanding Yourself Through Personality Type

The Myers-Briggs Framework

Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers were early pioneers in the practical study of personality. Working in the first half of the 20th century, they were deeply influenced by the work of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, particularly his theory that people experience and interact with the world in fundamentally different, but predictable, ways.

Their goal was not to label or limit people, but to help individuals better understand themselves and others — especially how they think, make decisions, relate to people, and respond to change. During and after World War II, Isabel Briggs Myers devoted years to researching, refining, and validating what became known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), one of the most widely used personality frameworks in the world.

At its core, the Myers-Briggs model is based on four key dimensions:

  • How you focus your energy (Introversion or Extraversion)
  • How you take in information (Sensing or Intuition)
  • How you make decisions (Thinking or Feeling)
  • How you relate to structure and the outer world (Judging or Perceiving)

When combined, these preferences form 16 distinct personality types, each with its own natural strengths, challenges, communication styles, and stress triggers.

Why Personality Awareness Matters

Understanding your Myers-Briggs type can be a powerful catalyst for change — particularly if you’re at a point in life where you’re rethinking your direction, starting a business, or trying to break through patterns that no longer serve you.

Clarity around your personality type can help you:

  • Recognise why certain environments energise or drain you
  • Understand recurring patterns in your relationships and work life
  • Identify natural strengths you may be under-utilising
  • See where friction, overwhelm, or self-sabotage is more likely to arise
  • Make better decisions that align with how you’re wired — not how you think you should be

Importantly, personality type is not a box and not an excuse. It’s a starting point. Awareness gives you choice. And choice is the foundation of meaningful personal and professional transformation.

When combined with work on limiting beliefs, self-sabotage, and mindset — such as the Success Blockers you’ll explore elsewhere on this site — personality insight becomes a practical tool for redesigning how you work, lead, relate, and live.

If you’re serious about reinventing yourself, understanding who you are is just as important as deciding what you want.
